Negative Voice in my head

get rid of the negative self talk, podcast episode with picture of host and guest

Today I am speaking with Alicia Berberich about the negative chatter we can deal with in our head. She is passionate about helping women unleash their true potential, to become who they are meant to become. She works with women to help them release the shackles that bind them to the old way of thinking, so they can achieve their goals through motivation, mindset, and manifestation.

What is the Negative Voice:

Being aware that the negative voice in your head is not you, rather it is just a part of your head that is talking at you. Many times we can struggle with determining if the voice in our head is our intuition or if it’s just that negative side of us trying to keep us in a box (safe). You can definitely tell the difference between the two.

Your Intuition speaks out of curiosity, asking questions with nuance. It will be speaking to you to get you to think further, pay attention, and even sometimes sending up little red flags.

The Negative voice is more of a harsh critic voice. It can come down like a ton of bricks and belittle you or even in a more subtle way of responding as if it’s a good idea, but has you questioning why YOU would be able to do this. Very belittling.

How did the Negative Voice get there:

More women than men deal with this negative voice and up until the age of 7 we are working off these elementary brain waves. We don’t have a filter system yet, and these things that come through are just the way of being. Many times you will here something to keep you safe at a young age, but without the filter system in place yet we hear it as fact and then if you see other people doing it, you don’t understand why other’s may be having the opportunity but you can’t. A statement that was there to keep you safe, is now holding you back because you fear that something bad will happen. These are old scripts that are playing in our head, on automatic repeat and we don’t realize that these are past voices, that are talking at us.

How to handle the Negative Voice:

  1. Acknowledge the voice, so that you realize that it is separate from you
  2. Appreciate it, to let it know that you understand that it is there to help keep you safe
  3. Turn down the volume of the voice
  4. Action: move forward with courage

The Messy Middle and finding your Purpose:

During midlife we have so much going on where we have been taking care of everyone else during this time, that we tend to put our self aside. It is important to provide yourself with some self care to help you feel your best. Things will slow down and your purpose will be called louder and louder, and will come out in a strong way to drive your energy. Your purpose will become louder than the negative voice in your head.

When you are following your purpose you will find the energy to continue on that path and you will want to keep going. Your purpose is an evolution, so don’t worry about getting stuck, it will continue to show you the way if you keep moving forward. As you evolve, so does your purpose. When you are excited and energized, you are on the right path.

Habit Stack your Purpose:

Each morning when you wake up, before you get out of bed. Think about the feeling you want, or a feeling that you had in the past, and pull that feeling into your body, so that you can emit the energy out so that you are attracting the same energy back to you. This will help you to find the things you are wanting to do.

If you are doing something you no longer enjoy, it can feel very heavy. Find other alternatives that will serve you in a better way, so that it isn’t so draining on you. You can’t just think it, and it will come situation. You must take inspired action. Find people to help energize you, take 3 inspired actions towards your goal, and then gratitude (you can do this while brushing your teeth) for what you are appreciating. If you are dealing with distractions while on your path to find your purpose, it may be there to teach you a lesson on the way.
