Tools to Help Children Dealing with Anxiety (Interview)
In this Interview I spoke with Sara of Mighty & Bright, which offers tools to help children dealing with anxiety. This company started out of necessity because her daughter was struggling with anxiety at 2 years old after her divorce. Sara has background in Psychology but not child Psychology, so when her daughters Child Psychologist created a paper calendar to show when she was on vacation, this sparked Mighty & Bright calendar creation to help her daughter see when she’d see her dad. Children do not understand the concept of time, so it’s important to see things visually to help.
The Mighty & Bright calendar helps to reduce anxiety and behavior problems as it provides children ownership of their own schedule and provides them with a visual reference. Sara began adding more activities to help with other life events. As she was diagnosed with Cancer in mid-30’s which again sparked another calendar to help explain to her daughter the chaotic schedule centered around her treatment.
Her calendars are for everyone with chaotic or everyday changes, from anything where daily routines are changing or major life changes. These individual calendars are for kids to have a sense of control where they can see what is happening in their lives. These calendars are great for ages 2-12. All kids struggle with change, anxiety comes from change, so by giving kids a sense of control and sense of power, helps them release anxiety and changes behavior for the better
